Frequently Asked Questions

About Us
  • What breeds do you breed?
We only breed Boxers
  • For what purpose do you breed your dogs? What is your motivation or philosophy as a breeder?
The only good reason to breed is to improve the breed! Period. In order to do this, we try to keep back a puppy from every litter (as every litter was planned for a particular purpose), or forfeit pick puppy to friends/associates in order to make a contribution to the betterment of the breed. We are breeding for the “total dog” and feel that being a good show dog and being a healthy and good breeder, shouldn't be mutually exclusive. We feel that a dog should be all these
things with an excellent temperament to boot.

  • How long have you been involved with Boxers?
I purchased my first boxer in 1997
  • Are you a member of the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), or any other breed clubs?
We are members in good standing (since 2007) with the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC).
  • Do you show your dogs?
Yes, we are fairly new to the show world and have just recently started to show one of our lines. The CKC and AKC are not use to the European look in the ring, as they are much different than the American boxers that are typically shown. We have attended 2 shows and are pleased with getting winners male at our second show. We are hopeful that he will continue to do well in the future.

About Our Dogs and Puppies

  • Are your dogs Canadian Kennel Club Registered (CKC)?
Yes, all of our dogs are CKC registered and our European imports are also FCI registered.
  • Do your puppies receive any Veterinary care?
Yes, our puppies are seen by our vet at 2 days of age for tail docking and dewclaw removal. Then are then seen again at 7 weeks of age for a physical exam, vaccines and microchip.
  •  What tests or health scans do you have done on your adult/breeding dogs?
Our dogs have their OFA/OVC Hip clearances, 24hr Heart Holters, OFA Thyroid and Degenerative Myelopathy (DM).

Our Breeding Program and Boxers

  • What are the breed characteristics of Boxers?
Please see our Boxer Standard page which is located underneath the Info tab above.
  • How many dogs do you have?
We currently have 6 dogs who live with us fulltime, plus 4 fosters for a total of 10 dogs. Of those 10, 6 are active in our breeding program (4F/2M), 2 are up and coming future breeding prospects and 2 are retired and get to enjoy being spoiled house pets.
  • How many litters do you have per year?
We have approximately three to four litters a year.
  • How often do you breed your girls, how many litters do they have and when do you retire them?
Our females only have 2-3 litters. They are never bred before 18mths of age and are usually retired by 4 yrs of age.
  • Why do you import dogs when there are so many breeders in Canada?
There are a couple of reasons why we choose to import most of our dogs. The first being that we prefer the look, temperament and health of the European Boxer. The FCI implemented mandatory health testing more than 10 years ago in Europe. This means we can easily trace back those health testing results through our pedigrees. Unfortunately neither the CKC nor AKC has implemented this.

There are many boxer breeders throughout Canada but only a small handful who specialize in TRUE imported European Boxers and an even smaller handful who we deem as reputable and ethical. Our goal is to continue breeding boxers of health and substance. We will only work with other like-minded breeders who have the same breeding ethics as we do.
  • What are the genetic problems the breed(s) is prone to?
Like most purebreds our breed is known to suffer from the follow genetic issues. Thankfully through selective breeding practices and health testing we can significantly decrease these genetic defects.

Hip Dysplasia

Cardiomyopathy (ARVC)

Sub-Aortic Stenosis (SAS)

Thyroid Disease

Degenerative Myelopathy (DM)

 Raising Our Puppies and Dogs

  • How do you socialize your puppies?
Home-raised puppies are a lot different than puppies raised in a kennel! Our puppies are raised in our Puppy Room which is in our spare bedroom. They get to come outside several times per day (weather permitting) to explore their new environment. This is where they are well-socialized with kids, cats and the rest of our adult dog crew. They are given bones, chew toys and other toys for early stimulation. We start nail clipping at 2 weeks of age in addition to regular handling and care. We also litter box train our puppies to help our clients with the house breaking process.
  • Where do your adult dogs live? Where are they kept?
Our dogs live in our home and not in a kennel. We view our dogs as members of our family, they are allowed to free roam our home and sleep on the couches and beds. They are all crate trained and are only placed in their crates when we need to leave the house and run errands.
  • How do you exercise your dogs?
Our dogs gets lots of regular indoor and outdoor play. They have a large fully fenced backyard (100 x 200’), they enjoy going out with us on the ATV’s through the 200 acres of farm fields, as well as going for walks/hikes and handling/training classes. If the weather is bad we even have a few who enjoy going on the treadmill to help burn off some energy.

Adoption Information
  • Do you provide a health guarantee?
Yes, we offer a 3 yr health guarantee. You can view it here
  • At what age do you place (adopt out) your puppies?
Our puppies are typically ready to go at 8-9 weeks.
  • When can we come pick out our puppy?
Puppy picks are made between 4-5 weeks of age. Once the puppies have been born, we send our clients an email with pictures and details of the litter (size, colour, sex). Every week we will update you with either new pictures or a video. Around 4 weeks of age you are invited to come out, meet/play with the puppies and make your puppy pick. We will continue to send weekly updates via email until your puppy is ready to be picked up at 8-9 weeks of age.
  • Will you be available to answer questions and give advice?
Absolutely! We offer lifetime support, in addition to a lifetime “welcome home” policy for our dogs.
